Library 2.0

I sampled some of the suggested readings on Library 2.0 and quickly became a fan of Rick Anderson the Director of Resource Aquisition at the Univ. of Nevada-Reno. In his piece Away from Icebergs, Rick mentioned that one of his favorite icebergs is the notion of a "just in case " collection where we hold eveything and anything so are ready for the day someone actually asks for it. I felt proud of CML as I continued reading-that we are becoming more and more flexible in our holdings, really looking at how often our materials are used, and that we have a tech services department in place that allows us to be responsive in our collecting-because we know materials can be added quickly. Of course, I am biased...
I was also interested in Chip Nilges OCLC articel about More Powerful Ways to Cooperate. I hadn't heard until now that OCLC is experimenting with allowing users to add tables of content, notes and reviews, as well as tagging and lists etc. This seems like it could really support the cataloging we do quickly with the kind of content patrons have always really wanted us to provide.
Then I started thinking about overlap-such as-if you can find a series list on OCLC and also via aquabrowser and also on Novelist.....where would it get used the most?
Oh well, a question for another day. In the meantime, I think Library 2.0 means the potential for more in depth information for our customers-which is great.
